Three names from three eras sharing one small number
The king of Bashan, whose bedstead the Torah measures — the one time it describes a piece of furniture, to convey the scale of the opponent.
Out of the vast Talmud he selected what bears on practice and made a digest. The road to the Shulchan Aruch begins with him.
He published Leaves of Grass at his own expense and spent his life rewriting the same book, adding to it again and again.
