Where the method comes from. The Torah is laid out as 354 pages — the days of a lunar year — of 861 letters each, the last of 872: 304,805 letters in all. The layout is Binyamin Pichkhadze’s, in “Chumash 354” (חומש 354), Bnei Brak, 2002. We count by it, and every figure can be checked on paper.
