Dov Ber, 1704–1772, successor of the Baal Shem Tov. He rarely left his room, but nearly every Hasidic dynasty of the next century traces itself back to the students he sent out from it.
Mathematician of Syracuse. He bounded pi to an accuracy that held for fifteen centuries and laid the foundations of mechanics.
