Three names from three eras sharing one small number
The prophet from whom we have the words about beating swords into ploughshares. To the call he answered briefly: here I am, send me.
Israel ben Eliezer, 1698–1760. Founder of Hasidism. He taught that a simple person praying from the heart stands no lower than a scholar, and that joy is not the reward for service but the manner of it.
Israel's sixth prime minister. He signed the peace treaty with Egypt; Nobel Peace Prize, 1978.
What connects them
Each of the three moved at some point — changed country, side or occupation, and that is exactly what defined them.
