The matriarch who watered ten camels at the well — and by that was recognized. She also decided who would receive the blessing.
Chaim Yosef David Azulai, 1724–1806, Jerusalem. A bibliographer and a traveller: he crossed the communities of Europe as an emissary of the Land of Israel and catalogued hundreds of manuscripts nobody else would have counted.
He made some two thousand works in ten years and sold almost nothing in his lifetime. Today his paintings are among the most recognized in the world.
