«And the breast of waving and the thigh of heaving shall ye eat in a clean place; thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters with thee; for they are given as thy due, and thy sons' due, out of the sacrifices of the peace-offerings of the children of Israel.»
Vayikra (Leviticus) 10:14 · page 181 of 354
This is from the portion “Shmini” (Leviticus 9–11). What it is about: The eighth day: Aaron's first service; fire from heaven; the death of Nadab and Abihu; clean and unclean animals.
Nobody picked it: the letters of today's date add up to 181, and that is page 181 of the 354 pages of the Torah — the first five books of the Bible.
Today's number reads the same both ways.
The same number was already written down around 1300: אהב אביהם מכל אחיו = סוד לו בלבד ולא
In the database it appears 5 times across 4 books. We do not claim this proves anything: we show who wrote it and when, and we recounted it ourselves.
Today is the name's day of: Polina. And your name?
Person of the day
Three names from three eras sharing one small number
The matriarch who watered ten camels at the well — and by that was recognized. She also decided who would receive the blessing.
Chaim Yosef David Azulai, 1724–1806, Jerusalem. A bibliographer and a traveller: he crossed the communities of Europe as an emissary of the Land of Israel and catalogued hundreds of manuscripts nobody else would have counted.
He proposed that energy comes in packets and long regarded it as a mathematical trick. Quantum physics began there.
What connects them
All three are known for starting something first — and it went on without them afterwards.
One is what does not divide. A day to start a single thing rather than nudge five along. Whatever is laid down first today sets the order for the rest.
What are you putting off starting because you are waiting for it to get clearer?
How the small number works: the digits are added until one remains. Non-Hebrew names are written in Hebrew letters by ordinary transliteration; variants exist, and the number depends on the spelling. We show the letters so it can be checked. This is a coincidence of counting, not a claim about fate. It is interesting exactly insofar as you can see how it was counted.

Pesach Shabbat Chol ha-Moed

A Torah word with this number
This happens more often than the meeting does: measured, the number of the week and the number of the date meet on roughly one day in three. Saying so plainly is the method.
Psalms of the day
Under the customary division of the book of Psalms across the thirty days of the month, today's reading is 60-65.

Reading of the reduced number
One is what does not divide. A day to start a single thing rather than nudge five along. Whatever is laid down first today sets the order for the rest.
What follows is an interpretation, not a calculation. The reduced number comes from adding the digits; everything else on this page can be checked, and this cannot.
