«All the days of his vow of Naziriteship there shall no razor come upon his head; until the days be fulfilled, in which he consecrateth himself unto HaShem, he shall be holy, he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow long.»
Bamidbar (Numbers) 6:5 · page 230 of 354
This is from the portion “Naso” (Numbers 4–7). What it is about: The sotah — the test of the wife; the nazirite; the priestly blessing; the gifts of the tribal chiefs for the dedication of the altar.
Nobody picked it: the letters of today's date add up to 938, and that is page 230 of the 354 pages of the Torah — the first five books of the Bible.
No word in the Torah carries today's number. Only a handful of such days a year.
The same number was already written down around 1450?: ויעקב איש תם = עם האותיות (with the ±1 correction)
In the database it appears 3 times across 3 books. We do not claim this proves anything: we show who wrote it and when, and we recounted it ourselves.
Person of the day
Three names from three eras sharing one small number
Aaron's son who inherited the high priesthood. He counted the people together with Moses and divided the land with Joshua.
Wife of Jacob, mother of Joseph and Benjamin. She was buried by the road to Bethlehem rather than in the family cave — so that exiles passing by, the midrash explains, would have somewhere to stop.
At twelve he worked in a blacking factory while his father sat in debtors' prison. Later he wrote novels in instalments, awaited like a serial.
What connects them
For all three the main thing happened not alone: there was always a second — an ally, a rival, or someone they answered for.
Two is always another person. A day for conversation, for agreement, for the other side. A decision made alone today will have to be revisited together.
Whom should you speak to directly today, instead of deciding for both of you?
How the small number works: the digits are added until one remains. Non-Hebrew names are written in Hebrew letters by ordinary transliteration; variants exist, and the number depends on the spelling. We show the letters so it can be checked. This is a coincidence of counting, not a claim about fate. It is interesting exactly insofar as you can see how it was counted.

Reading of the reduced number
Two is always another person. A day for conversation, for agreement, for the other side. A decision made alone today will have to be revisited together.
What follows is an interpretation, not a calculation. The reduced number comes from adding the digits; everything else on this page can be checked, and this cannot.
