«And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and stay ye your heart; after that ye shall pass on; forasmuch as ye are come to your servant.' And they said: 'So do, as thou hast said.'»
Bereshit (Genesis) 18:5 · page 25 of 354
This is from the portion “Vayera” (Genesis 18–22). What it is about: Three visitors at Abraham's tent; the plea for Sodom; the birth of Isaac; the binding of Isaac on Mount Moriah.
Nobody picked it: the letters of today's date add up to 379, and that is page 25 of the 354 pages of the Torah — the first five books of the Bible.
No word in the Torah carries today's number. Only a handful of such days a year.
Today is the name's day of: Absalom. And your name?
Person of the day
Three names from three eras sharing one small number
The prophet of the First Temple's destruction. To the call he answered 'I cannot speak, for I am a child' — and then spoke for forty years knowing he would not be heeded.
Tradition places his death on Shavuot. The book of Psalms is ascribed to him — the same book divided across the thirty days of the month and read daily the world over.
He computed the orbit of Mars for eight years until he admitted it was not a circle but an ellipse. Giving up the beautiful shape gave the right law.
What connects them
All three are known for starting something first — and it went on without them afterwards.
One is what does not divide. A day to start a single thing rather than nudge five along. Whatever is laid down first today sets the order for the rest.
What are you putting off starting because you are waiting for it to get clearer?
How the small number works: the digits are added until one remains. Non-Hebrew names are written in Hebrew letters by ordinary transliteration; variants exist, and the number depends on the spelling. We show the letters so it can be checked. This is a coincidence of counting, not a claim about fate. It is interesting exactly insofar as you can see how it was counted.

Reading of the reduced number
One is what does not divide. A day to start a single thing rather than nudge five along. Whatever is laid down first today sets the order for the rest.
What follows is an interpretation, not a calculation. The reduced number comes from adding the digits; everything else on this page can be checked, and this cannot.
