The number of your name

Anahit (אנאהיט) — An Armenian name, the name of the old Armenian goddess Anahit.
And the same number belongs to the Torah word עבד — “servant”.

Your word in the Torah

The word עבד — “servant” — has the same number as your name. Here is the verse where it first appears:

וכל שיח השדה טרם יהיה בארץ וכל עשב השדה טרם יצמח כי לא המטיר ה׳ אלהים על הארץ ואדם אין לעבד את האדמה
Genesis 2:5

The verse of your name

There is a sentence with which, by custom, a person answers when asked who they are.

Yours is this one.

אז אמר אחזיהו בן אחאב אל יהושפט ילכו עבדי עם עבדיך באניות ולא אבה יהושפט
1 Kings 22:50

The verse is chosen by the custom: it begins with the first letter of your name, א, and ends with the last, ט.

The Pentateuch has no verse that begins with א and ends with ט. The custom allows the whole Tanakh — and there it is: 1 Kings 22:50.

The custom is written down in the Kitzur Shelah and in Sefer Ben Zion: “say it regularly and never forget it as long as you live.” The Rokeach gives the reason in Chochmat ha-Nefesh: a person is asked their name, and whoever does not remember cannot answer. The verse holds the name for them. Siddur ha-Rashban puts it more plainly: children were made to learn their verse by heart — so that if they were taken and forgot everything else, they would still know who they were.

How to read your number

Fact. The letters of the name אנאהיט add up to 76. Plain addition — you can check it yourself.

Meaning. There is a Torah word with the same number — עבד (“servant”). A matching sum does not mean the word is 'about you'; it is a reason to look at what in it matters to you.

A question for yourself. What in this do you recognise in yourself — and what would you like to strengthen?

Practice. This week: open the verse of your name, read it slowly three times and write down one thought that stays with you.

אנאהיט
In short
Your name in Hebrew letters is אנאהיט. An Armenian name, the name of the old Armenian goddess Anahit. It comes from the Iranian name Anahita, “pure, without stain”. It is one of the common women's names in Armenia. In Hebrew it is written by sound. Adding up the numbers of its letters gives 76 — the same as the Torah word עבד, “servant”. That number points to Torah page 76 of 354 — in the portion Miketz. What that portion is about: Pharaoh's dreams of seven cows and seven ears; Joseph rules Egypt; the brothers come for grain; the cup in Benjamin's sack. The verse that begins with the first letter of your name and ends with the last is 1 Kings 22:50. Each of these steps is laid out below with its sources. Every figure can be checked by hand.
You wrote “Anahit” — this exact spelling is what was calculated: אנאהיט. The customary Hebrew spelling of this name. If your name is spelled differently, correct the Hebrew spelling and the report is recomputed.
Adding up the letters of the name אנאהיט gives 76.
76
The number 76 is the Torah word עבד — «servant» (Genesis 9:25).

✓ Verify

This number is shared with 10 other name(s) out of the 2,980 in the index.

The number 76, as the remainder modulo 354, points to Torah page 76 in the book of Bereshit (Genesis).
The verse this place falls on is Bereshit (Genesis) 42:32:
שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר אֲנַחְנוּ אַחִים בְּנֵי אָבִינוּ הָאֶחָד אֵינֶנּוּ וְהַקָּטֹן הַיּוֹם אֶת־אָבִינוּ בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן
We are twelve brethren, sons of our father; one is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
This is from the portion Miketz. What it is about: Pharaoh's dreams of seven cows and seven ears; Joseph rules Egypt; the brothers come for grain; the cup in Benjamin's sack.
Other ways of counting
The tradition counts the same name in several ways. The main one is above: each letter is its number. The other eight are old and checkable too; each gives its own number, and many of them have a Torah word with the same number.
Final letters as 500–900 (mispar gadol) — 76. A Torah word with the same number is עבד — “servant” (Genesis 9:25).
Reduced, each letter to one digit (mispar katan) — 22. A Torah word with the same number is יחד — “together” (Genesis 13:6).
Ordinal: alef 1, bet 2 … tav 22 (mispar siduri) — 40. A Torah word with the same number is חלב — “fat” (Genesis 4:4).
Cumulative: a letter plus all letters before it (mispar kidmi) — 312. A Torah word with the same number is ישב — “to sit, dwell” (Genesis 4:16).
Squares of the letter values (mispar perati) — 2708.
Building: the sum grows with each letter (mispar bone’eh) — 304. A Torah word with the same number is חרמון — “Mount Hermon” (Deuteronomy 3:8).
The letters that come out are תטתצמנ — not a word that stands in the Pentateuch. Atbash: letters mirrored, alef for tav, bet for shin, and the number of the resulting word — 989.
Filling: the names of the letters are counted — alef, bet, gimel… (milui) — 773.
The number 76 appears in the classical books 16 times across 12 works. The earliest mention is דרושי שער הכוונות (~1573).
The name אנאהיט does not stand as a word in the Pentateuch — as with most names, including many Tanakh names from the later books.
The verse of your name
The Pentateuch has no verse that begins with א and ends with ט. The custom allows the whole Tanakh — the Prophets and the Writings have 5 such verses. The first of them is 1 Kings 22:50:
אז אמר אחזיהו בן אחאב אל יהושפט ילכו עבדי עם עבדיך באניות ולא אבה יהושפט

How it is counted

Each Hebrew letter has a number; a word's number is their sum (alef 1 … tav 400). The page is the remainder modulo 354: the Torah divided into 354 pages of 861 letters, as the lunar year has 354 days. Everything can be checked by hand.
