The Amorite king who refused peaceful passage. The Torah stresses: words of peace were sent first, and only then war.
Moses ben Maimon, 1138–1204. Physician to the sultan in Cairo and author of the Mishneh Torah — the first code of the whole of Jewish law in plain Hebrew, without citations or disputes, so that a person could read it and understand on his own.
Israel's first prime minister, who declared the state in 1948. He spent his last years in the desert, at kibbutz Sde Boker.
