«And HaShem said unto Moses: 'Pharaoh will not hearken unto you; that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.'»
Shmot (Exodus) 11:9 · page 110 of 354
This is from the portion “Bo” (Exodus 10–13). What it is about: Locusts, darkness and the death of the firstborn; the Passover lamb; the exodus from Egypt; the commandment of tefillin.
Nobody picked it: the letters of today's date add up to 464, and that is page 110 of the 354 pages of the Torah — the first five books of the Bible.
The word with this number appears in the Torah exactly once.
Person of the day
Three names from three eras sharing one small number
From his house came both Nahshon and Aaron's wife. One name links the tribe of Judah with the priesthood.
1895–1986. He came from Belarus to New York and became the man the world wrote to with questions that had no precedent: artificial respiration, a lift on the Sabbath, an inheritance.
He reduced electricity, magnetism and light to a few equations — and predicted radio waves twenty years before they were produced.
What connects them
Each of the three moved at some point — changed country, side or occupation, and that is exactly what defined them.
Five is the hand with five fingers, the number of grip and of change. A day when the plan has to be corrected as you go, and that is fine.
Where are you standing still only because it is familiar here?
How the small number works: the digits are added until one remains. Non-Hebrew names are written in Hebrew letters by ordinary transliteration; variants exist, and the number depends on the spelling. We show the letters so it can be checked. This is a coincidence of counting, not a claim about fate. It is interesting exactly insofar as you can see how it was counted.

Reading of the reduced number
Five is the hand with five fingers, the number of grip and of change. A day when the plan has to be corrected as you go, and that is fine.
What follows is an interpretation, not a calculation. The reduced number comes from adding the digits; everything else on this page can be checked, and this cannot.
