This is from the portion “Shemot” (Exodus 1–6). What it is about: Slavery in Egypt; Moses in the basket on the Nile; the burning bush and the Name; the first audience with Pharaoh.
Nobody picked it: the letters of today's date add up to 96, and that is page 96 of the 354 pages of the Torah — the first five books of the Bible.

Three names from three eras sharing one small number
King of Salem, who came out to Abraham with bread and wine. He appears for two lines and vanishes.
Shlomo Yitzchaki, 1040–1105, Troyes. A vintner and a commentator. His commentary on the Torah and the Talmud has been printed beside the text for nearly a thousand years: he explains more briefly than anyone, and explains exactly what is unclear.
He put the car on a moving assembly line and made it cheap enough for his own workers to buy. He is also known for antisemitic publications, for which he later issued an apology.
