Your name in Hebrew for a tattoo: how to get the spelling right

Your name in Hebrew for a tattoo or an engraving

A tattoo cannot be edited. Here is what to check before the spelling goes on skin, metal or stone.

Veja o nome em três tipos de letra
1. Hebrew runs right to left

Design software often reverses Hebrew text. If the letters come out in the opposite order, the word is unreadable. Compare the result with the spelling on our page, letter by letter.

2. Five letters change at the end of a word

Kaf, Mem, Nun, Pe and Tsadi have a final form: ך ם ן ף ץ. A regular form at the end of a word is a spelling mistake.

3. A foreign name has more than one spelling

Names from other languages are written by sound, and there may be two or three accepted ways. We show the alternatives on the name page. Choose one, and keep to it.

4. Vowel points are optional

Modern Hebrew is written without vowel points. Adding them is a style choice; adding them wrongly is a mistake.

5. Ask a person who reads Hebrew

We compute the spelling by rule and from an index of names. Before anything permanent, show it to someone who reads Hebrew. It takes a minute.
