What Chumash gematria is — and how it differs from numerology
The letter count used to read a name goes back centuries. How it differs from numerology and what it actually shows.
Every letter is a number
Hebrew has no separate digits: each letter carries a numeric value. Aleph is 1, bet is 2, gimel is 3, and so on up to 400. So every word has a sum, and a name has its own number. This is not the occult — it is how numbers were written for thousands of years.
Why it is not numerology
Popular numerology reduces a name to a single digit from 1 to 9. Chumash gematria does not: it keeps the full number and compares it with words of the Torah that share the same sum. The portrait is built not from "the character of a nine" but from the actual words standing beside your number in the text.
What you can verify
The key difference is that it can be checked. We show every letter, its value and the sum. Anyone who can add is able to recompute the result and reach the same number. Interpretation stays interpretation, but the calculation itself is open — that is the line between a method and fortune-telling.
